The world-famous baroque ensemble "Les Arts Florissants de William Christie" interpreted on December 7th the public dress rehearsal of the "Messiah" of Haendel, which we filmed. The premiere took place on December 13th in the Philharmonie de Paris. The musical composition was an oratorio, that is to say a sacred musical work composed for orchestra, choir and solist, that tells a story : "the Messiah" of Haendel, often interpreted in Christmas period since its first part is dedicated to the birth of Christ. This lyric and dramatic work is, to quote Sébastien de Brossard in his Music Dictionary when he defines what an oratorio is : "a kind of spiritual opera (…) an allegory of some religious mystery". The theatrical dimension was indeed very well-rendered by "Les Arts Florissants", with strength, that has enabled the audience to penetrate the shadows and the spirit of an undeniable masterpiece.
